All you need to know about Vin Numbers/Decoders

In this article, you will read about Vin decoders of cars and BMW that what are the Vin decoders of vehicles and how these are beneficial for you?

VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) or chassis number is a complex set of signs that are given to each vehicle by the manufacturer for the purpose of identifying it. There is ISO 3779-1983 which determines the content and the form of the identification number , through which the uniform vehicle identification system can be created for the whole world.

VIN is Composed of Three Parts

WMI-also called Constructor code is the code given to the constructor for the purpose of identifying it. It consists of three signs (letters or Numbers), given by the institutions appropriate for each country in which the manufacturer’s headquarters is located, in cooperation with the International Organization for Standardization or its local agency.

VDS – the part that describes the vehicle is made up of six signs that give the general description of the vehicle. The signs, their place in the code and their meaning shall be determined by the manufacturer. Places that are not used by the manufacturer are spun with signs of no importance for coded information.

VIS- Part which is characteristic for the vehicle. It consists of eight signs at the end of the code. Important is that the last four signs are the numbers. If the manufacturer wants to code the year of production and/or the place of production it is considered to code the year on the first and the place on the second screw position. “Year” means the calendar year in which the vehicle was manufactured, or the model year of the vehicle in accordance with the determinations considered by the manufacturer.

Like Car’s VIN Decoders, BMW VIN Lookup is an alphanumeric construction except for the last four signs. One accepted use of uppercase letters and numbers, such as 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 A B C D E F G H J K L M N P R S T U V W X Y Z.

It is acceptable for manufacturers to use the signs separating the parts of the VIN, WIM, and VIS if they are not the signs listed before or signs similar to them. However, the separative signs may not be used in the vehicle identification documents. VIN placed on or in the vehicle should be written in one verse or a maximum of two, without empty spaces, but the integrity of each part of the VIN; WIM, VDS, and VIS should be kept. In the identification papers, you have to write VIN in a verse.

The definition of VIN is based on ISO 3779 (1983).

Or am I gonna find the VIN?
